Witanhurst manor, Highgate, home to the Fame Academy and the setting for various television dramas, has been sold, reportedly for over £50 million.

The new owner of the Queen Anne listed mansion is to be Elena Baturina, thought to be the wealthiest woman in Russia and wife of the mayor of Moscow.

With its 25 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, eight reception rooms, grand entrance hall and 70ft grand ballroom, Witanhust is the second biggest residential home in London after Buckingham Palace.

News of the sale came as Witanhurst joined 54 of Camden borough's other listed buildings on the watchdog's Heritage at Risk register released this week.

Also listed were Highgate Cemetery and Kentish Town Baths. Witanhurst is rated as one of the buildings in the worst condition.

Witanhurst House and its adjoining gardens, which includes a 95-year-old tennis pavilion, was bought last summer by Marcus Cooper, who had vowed to do the work needed to take the property off English Heritage's endangered list.
