Council and charity promote health with free cycle scheme
To promote health and fitness among residents living within the borough of Camden, but outside the mayor of London’s bike zone, the council has teamed up with registered local charity, the Queen’s Crescent Community Association, to set up a free bike loan scheme.
Residents will be able to borrow bikes for varying lengths of time, including the occasional hour to a couple of days. The council hope the scheme will suit residents that want to take a ride around the park or even give a trial run to cycling to work.
Six bikes and various pieces of cycling equipment are available to be used by the local community at no cost.
According to the council, the new bike scheme will also drive down the area’s carbon footprint as more people select cycling over driving or taking the bus.
A range of different size bicycles are on offer, and community centre staff will be on hand with advice and help on riding and adjusting the bikes.
Readers should note that the bike hire is only available to members of the Queen’s Crescent Community Association. To join, readers living in the Camden area should contact the charity on 0207 267 6635.
