Almost £5 million worth of improvements have been finalised at Highgate Wood School, Crouch End, and the writer and performer John Amobi has officially opened the school’s new facilities.

The school is the first to be finished in Haringey’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. Students and teachers celebrated this week by officially opening the school’s new Learning Resource Centre.

Headteacher Patrick Cozier, said: “We are delighted with our new facilities and we are excited to be able to begin to enjoy the opportunities that the new areas will bring. The changes that we have been able to make will benefit Highgate Wood students both in the present and in the future.”

The Learning Resource Centre has a large library collection, a quiet reading area, a computer suite, a media resource centre and a music technology room. The library and computer area, which has internet access for study and research, will be open to the community outside of school hours.

Councillor Lorna Reith, cabinet member for children and young people, was delighted with the new centre and said: “The opening of the centre and the completion of our first BSF project in Haringey shows our clear commitment to transforming the lives of young people in the borough. The students at Highgate Wood will have these fantastic facilities to use for years to come.”

Highgate Wood School is the first of 12 projects to complete with more than £214m being used to transform teaching and learning across the borough.
