Council start thinking about winter months early

Haringey Council has already taken steps to deal with the cold weather, preparing for the winter months in order to tackle fuel poverty.

The council has devised The Affordable Warmth Strategy, which identifies four main priorities to help give every resident the opportunity for a warm home. This includes improving awareness and understanding of what fuel

poverty is and increasing the energy efficiency of the council’s housing stock.

Councillor John Bevan, cabinet member for housing said: “A warm and welcoming home is essential for ensuring that residents enjoy good health and well-being, yet many people live in homes that they are unable to heat

properly.

“There are many reasons for this such as poor condition of building, low income and high fuel prices.”

The plans will be launched in the autumn, though the council is currently consulting with residents, community groups and council partners to help inform the final strategy.
