Final call for entries for the John Betjeman Young People's Poetry Competition:

Are you a budding Poet Laureate? Would you like to try your hand with an entry to The John Betjeman Poetry Competition (www.betjemanpoetrycompetition.com) open to 11-14 year olds? The first prize is £1,000, (£500 to the winner and £500 to the English department of your school). The first prize winner, runner-up and highly commended will also each win £50 of book tokens. The teacher or literacy co-ordinator who inspires the most entries will receive £50 of book tokens. Winners will be notified by September. Please send ONE POEM with a title, about any aspect of your local surroundings. Closing date for entries is 31st July.

The prize-winners will be announced in early September, and the prize-giving will be held at St Pancras International station on Tuesday 5th October.
